This elegant handcrafted jewelry chest has the subtle details of contrasting stepped corner splines, slightly beveled drawer fronts, and softly coved top edge. The three wood combinations are:
1). Mottled Makore with Russian Black Walnut Burl: A dark peach colored wood, the grain of Mottled Makore is a series of random block patterns running over a background of subtle horizontal lines (looks like taffeta!). Maple corner splines contrast with the Makore. The top is made of Russian Black Walnut Burl, a highly figured chocolate brown wood from Russia, with a Curly Maple edge all around.

2). Beeswing Bolivian Rosewood with Redwood Burl: We used the very striking Beeswing Bolivian Rosewood in the bottom of the chest. The color and pattern looks like coffee with streaks of caramel running throughout. In addition, this special flitch that we have in our wood collection has a tiny fleck pattern in the grain that adds a three-dimensional appearance to the wood (a “beeswing” pattern). Maple corner splines further enhance the rich Rosewood. We complemented this wood with the tightly grained, honey colored Redwood Burl (native to the Pacific Northwest) on top with a Curly Maple edge.

3). Curly Maple with Maple Burl: Curly Maple is used in the bottom of the chest. A hardwood found mainly in the northern regions of New York State, Curly Maple is characterized by its striated figure or “curls” on a milky white background. Black Walnut corner splines complement the Curly Maple. The top is made with Maple Burl, a cream to tan colored wood with swirls and pinkish clusters throughout, paired with a Bubinga edge (a rust colored hardwood native to Africa). Each of the wood combinations are further enhanced with pinstriped Curly Maple and black Obechi handles. The Ash interior of this chest has a velvet lined upper storage cavity with two ring holders and a combination of small and large partitions. The drawers also are velvet lined with removable partitions
