This impressive handcrafted chest is available in light and dark versions. In the light version, the bottom is made of Curly Maple. It was our good fortune to find this special “flitch” (also known as a grouping or bundle) with highly figured curls. The milky whiteness of the Maple is contrasted with Black Walnut corner splines. The frame and panel top has a rich frame of Bubinga and a Maple Burl panel, another figured veneer with a varying cream to coral background and a random pattern of small pinkish clusters.

In the dark version, the bottom is made of Quilted Makore, a rare, figured veneer with the rich tones synonymous with the Mahogany species, but with a subtle “block” pattern in the grain resembling a block quilt, thus the name. The richness is enhanced by contrasting Maple corner splines and slightly beveled drawer fronts. The frame and panel top has a frame of Curly Maple and a panel of Russian Black Walnut Burl, a highly figured chocolate brown veneer with so many swirls and curls it looks like a topographic map!

“Bark-included” Maple (bark has actually grown into the tree, resulting in an unusual figure to the Maple) and Black Obechi handles complete the exterior of these chests.

The Mahogany interior is velvet lined and has cubicles of varying sizes in both the bottom cavity of the chest and the drawers for storage of both large and small jewelry (these can be removed and/or configured to suit your changing needs). There is also a velvet lined removable Cherry tray with additional partitions and ring holders.
