One-Drawer Jewelry Chest with Legs #676 – This handcrafted
jewelry chest looks like a miniature piece of furniture when displayed on a
dresser or bureau. It is available in three distinct wood combinations:
1). Birdseye Maple with Black Walnut Accents: A native
American hardwood found predominately in the upper regions of the United
States, Birdseye Maple has a pattern of small circles or “birdseyes” on a milky
white background. We have used this in the body of the chest and accented the
edges and legs with another American species, Black Walnut.
2). Quilted Sapele with Curly Maple Accents: The body and
top of this chest is Quilted Sapele, a reddish-brown wood native to Africa. The
“quilting” refers to the block pattern in the normally straight grain creating
an iridescent quality to the figure. The Curly Maple, with its highly figured
grain pattern and creamy hue, is a lovely complement to the Sapele.
3). Waterfall Bubinga with Curly Maple Accents: Bubinga,
used in the body and top of the chest, is a hardwood native to Cameroon and
Zaire. When rotary cut from the log, exciting grain patterns occur. This
particular flitch has a medium honey color with purplish veining in a wavy
grain pattern. This wood is paired with Curly Maple on the edges and legs.
All of the wood
combinations are further accented with pinstriped Curly Maple and black Obechi
handles. The interior of this chest is velvet-lined with a ring holder and
partitions in the main chest and removable partitions in the drawer.
